Saint Paul City Ballet is committed to making dance accessible to all children through community outreach.
Saint Paul City Ballet’s vision of making dance accessible to all children continues with an outreach program in the North End of St. Paul. SPCB offers reduced-cost classes in the North End of St. Paul, supported by businesses that are helping to make dance classes accessible to those who might otherwise not be able to afford them.
SPCB is collaborating with Arlington High School, St Bernard’s, Como High School, Mississippi Middle School, Washington Technology Magnet, and corresponding elementary schools. North End Business Association members, Equity Services, Inc. and Dar’s Double Scoop, are leading sponsors in bringing dance to the neighborhood. The Headwaters Group, a philanthropic services company, has also directly supported this outreach to new students by sponsoring an event that raised $8,000.
Dr. Patricia A. Murphy, Principal, Arlington High School is enthusiastic about the initiative. “Our students are very talented and through this generous resource will appreciate and experience dance exploration,” she said.
"Anything we do to bring the arts to a child's life is invaluable,” said Jeff Lenzmeier, principal of St. Bernard’s High School and visual arts educator for 14 years. “Education should help students grow in mind, body, and spirit. The arts cover all three of these. Bringing art and culture to the North End will give enhanced energy and revitalization to the work that is already in progress."
